Reviews:
Clarinettist Augusto Forti, based in Amsterdam, has strong links with
Dutch
free improvisors. In the 80's he took composition classes with
Misha Mengelberg. That surface at times, but Gravitones, despite their
name
serve up mainly light and affable blend of music for good times, sometimes
redolent of funk an African pop, with touches of cabaret jazz. Sounding
Brass, a quartet with Martin Mayes on French Horn and Oren Marshall
on tuba,
appear on three tracks, and shift the emphasis further towards Willem

sappiamo di Augusto Forti, clarinettista con base ad Amsterdam, ma
l'ascolto dell'ultimo lavoro del suo Gravitones (il leader, una tromba
tascabile, chitarra elettrica, contrabasso,batteria e svariati aggeggi
sonori) é esaltante. Unito al gruppo un quartetto con cornetta,
tuba,
trombone, corno francese (quest'ultimo lo imbraccia Martin Mayes,
il
follettaccio compito dell'Instabile Orchestra), fuoco di fila su brani
dall'andatura svaporata ed allusiva, sentieri a sorpresa dove un clima
di
rilassato tex-mex puó incrociare il giubilante fragore sonoro
del free
europeo.E poi versi, versacci e filastrocche, chitarrine funk che
smarriscono la strada e finiscono ad un altro indirizzo, gran dinamica
flessuosa degli ottoni, un senso concreto di felicitá narrativa
e di

De Gravitones zijn een groep van de in Amsterdam wonende Italiaanse
klarinettist Augusto Forti (vandaar de naam van het label). Het is
een
origineel, ijzersterk spelend kwintet met o.a. bassist Ernst Glerum
en
gitarist Paul Pallesen, dat funky vaart, folkloristiche invloeden
en
klassiek vormgevoel verweeft met fantasievolle improvisaties en een
aangenaam maffe humour: zo wordt er een zingende zaag ingezet, en
een "cyclophone", een uit diverse fietsbellen opgebouwd
instrument;Donald Duck wordt geïmiteerd en er wordt in
het Italiaans gerapt.Het komt allemaal heel gemoedelijk en vrolijk
over,
maar de soms lyrische,soms Zappians percussieve thema's en doordacht
opgebouwde composities duiden op verfijning en toegewijd vakmanschap,
vooral als vier extra koperblazers
